The AI Revolution in Space!
In the vast expanse of space, there's a frontier where AI meets satellite technology.
In the vast expanse of space, there's a frontier where AI meets satellite technology. Hereโs why this is a game changer:
๐ Currently, it takes 6 seconds for video from LEO satellites to reach Earth - mainly due to encoding.
๐ Satellites are set to increase 10X by the end of this decade. Their resolution? 100X more detailed. But the radio frequency bandwidth in space? Only growing by 10X.
๐ Many satellites transmit just images because of bandwidth constraints.
The math doesn't add up. But AI can change the equation.
One of my portfolio companies, TRL11 is looking to use the power of AI on the Edge to solve this low bandwidth problem. Unlike traditional models relying on cloud processing, Edge AI processes data directly on the satellite, reducing the need for extensive data transmissions. This means lesser data sent back to Earth, conserving bandwidth, and ensuring real-time, crisp space videos.
They showcased the power of their new SAVER (Space Aware Video Edge-Compute Recorder) system, aboard SpaceXโs Transporter-8.
๐ Spotlight: SAVER (Space Aware Video Edge-Compute Recorder) ๐
Launched aboard SpaceXโs Transporter-8 flight on June 12, 2023, SAVER recorded 90 minutes of rich full-motion video from multiple angles. Using AI edge processing, it performed selective encoding for optimal storage & resilient transmission.
Future outlook? Crystal clear videos from space! ๐
AI's not just for Earth anymore. It's revolutionizing our view from the skies. ๐๐ก
No more grainy alien footage! :D
